“My passion for wine started at a young age. I was intrigued by Ian Fleming’s spy novels. In Casino Royale when James Bond ordered Veuve Clicquot and scrambled eggs at 4 in the morning, well, I thought that was pretty damn cool.

Mark in Italy

I spent the ’80s working as the Beverage Director for the Shoreline Restaurant Group in Dallas and other notable establishments and the early ’90s traveling while chasing a few other careers. In 1998, my life became more grounded when I married.

In May of 2002, I was one of the first 12 people to sit for the Certified Specialist of Wine exam in New York City.

In 2003, I obtained my Diploma from the Bordeaux Wine School USA, proctored by Robin Kelley O’Connor and facilitated by the CIVB.

During the inaugural Dallas TEXSOM Competition in August 2004, I competed against 47 other wine professionals and placed third. This resulted in being chosen as one of five in the State of Texas to receive recognition for essay, service, and blind tasting skills regarding fine wine by the Sommelier Guild.

My 10-year tenure as a wine writer for a Dallas metropolitan publication allowed me to publish more than fifty articles on wine. I have also served as a wine judge for the Dallas Morning News Wine Competition, the Lone Star International Wine Competition, the San Antonio Stock & Rodeo International Wine Competition and the State Fair of Texas Wine Competition."
